Editors Note: My daughter had to write a persuasive paper for school and her topic of choice (unbeknownst to me) was about drinking and lighting up a smoke. This piece is what she produced, on her own, by researching the scriptures and talking with her mother and I. The working title was a bit more legalistic so we had a discussion about moderation and encouragement towards self-control and the headline has been changed. I told her that whatever she produced would be published on The Breakdown. Below is her work. This is an opinion piece and does not necessarily reflect the views of The Breakdown or it’s subsidiaries.
People shouldn’t drink a lot of alcohol. First, you could become drunk and have no control of yourself. Also, the Bible says that we have to have self -control, that is one of the fruits of the Spirit.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no law,” Galatians 5:22-23, KJV
“It is good to neither eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor anything whereby thy brother stumbleth or is offended or is made weak,” Romans 14:21 KJV
We shouldn’t smoke, for smoke is bad for your lungs and we should be good stewards of our body. Also, smoke can kill you. It could also give you bad health and bad habits.
If you’re in the bad habits of these things, pray and ask God to help you.
