What’s Next for the Church?

You could almost hear a collective sigh come over the nation when Donald Trump won the election.  Maybe it was a sigh of fiscal conservatives, ones that desire a tax cut for job creation.  Perhaps it was the social conservatives who desired a less liberal direction for the nation.

Did you feel relief after Donald Trump was elected?  Let me be honest – this guy did.  It was more a relief that Hillary Clinton wasn’t elected, and a hopeful disposition when the house and senate came under republican leadership.  The next four years will determine if it was good for our nation or not.

The next four years will also tell us where our hope lies, as well.  Are we trusting in men to have the answers to our sinking culture?  What if President-Elect Trump and the republican run house doesn’t do what we expect; doesn’t deliver on their promises?

In an interview with Wretched Radio, Dr. James White discusses what he believes is coming for the church in the next five to tens years.  Keep in mind that this video was posted nearly two years ago, so our time is shorter than was discussed.

In the interview, Todd Friel asks where Dr. White sees the church in five years specifically relating to homosexuality.

“If things keep going the way they are going and there is no blessing from God in the sense of wide spread repentance,” Dr. White answers, “All out warfare; and eventually a complete loss of all the protections we’ve had in regards to taxation,” and even our loss of the churches 501(c)(3) status.

Dr. White also see a drastic realignment of Christian education and how it is conducted.

“I think there is going to be a fundamental reorganization of Christian education,” says White, “it’s either going to have to abandon any type of specific Christian label, or it’s going to have to exist without Pell grants, student loans – any of those kinds of things.”

Now more than ever our diligence as a nation and, more importantly, as Christians must be on full alert.  The government is not the answer to our problems, it is merely a vehicle through which we are able to enact God’s laws for governance.  Involvement in the local communities – started in and strengthened by the local church – should be part of our political strategy.

Let us not forget the main purpose of our existence – to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.  Human beings in their current state of sin have no desire to glorify a God they willfully reject.  Our task is the same –

…preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. (2 Timothy 4:2-5 ESV)

The interview doesn’t leave us without a plan of action but gives us hope and encouragement of next steps.  Dr. White says each person and family

must be absolutely convinced within our hearts of the truth of the Gospel.  The inspiration, inerrancy and preservation of the Bible.  And that we have been called to serve Jesus Christ, where we are, to be salt and light, no matter what the cost.

Let us not fall asleep but be diligent, watching and praying together for the glory of God.

Soli Deo Gloria
